So I'll be back in Maine from June 17th to the 22nd. Probably would be easiest to catch me sometime between the 18th and the 21st. Though I'll be at PortCon during this time, I'm sure I could find some time somewhere to say hi or go to lunch or something. PortCon will be held at the Wyndham Hotel in Portland, ME. Anyone wanna come see me that I'm not already seeing at the con? Or you can find my phone number and call me too...

So I get home from running a couple of errands just now, and I saw mail in the mailbox, so I bring it in. I get my monthly Game Informer magazine and 3 very non-descript envelopes addressed to me. I wasn't expecting anything from anyone, so I open them to see what exactly they were. Lo and behold, all three were recruitment letters; one from the Army, one from the Navy, and one from the Marines. I basically toss them away and as I'm walking back to my room, an image of recruitment officers (or anyone for that matter) from each branch of the military pop into my head, except they're in this arena of sorts, fighting each other to the death to see who would win to get me to enroll. I'm still laughing about it now, I mean, no offense to the military. I appreciate that there are people out there defending our freedoms, but I really don't see myself being out there doing that for myself. Plus, I wouldn't be "eligible" to serve, since people with chronic illnesses aren't looked highly upon, or so I'm told/I understand.

In baseball terms, I remember the summers I used to play with a group of local neighborhood kids at a field down the road from my house that I lived in up in Houlton. I was never really good at baseball, I wasn't really strong enough nor was I really fast enough to do anything. I was 13 or 14 years old, skinny as all hell, cried and whined over injuries that really weren't that bad (to the point where the other guys in the neighborhood didn't want me to play whatever sport they were trying to gather up people for at the time). The guys who usually did the organizing and recruiting for when we played baseball kept stats on each game, everything from batting average to home runs hit to RBIs, they went all out and kept everything on a piece of notebook paper. This went on for a couple of years, I think? I don't really remember exactly when it was, (Maybe the 10th or 11th game I played in?) but when I got my first hit, I was elated. (Also probably should include that we were using a tennis ball as a baseball and aluminum bats as gear. The outfield "wall" was maybe 200 feet away, so it really wasn't terribly big.) It was a bloop single (pretty difficult to do with a tennis ball and aluminum bats, I know, but that's what it was.) and I was pretty impressed with myself. This was an ongoing thing for a few years, and with the tennis ball and aluminum bats that we were using, I never hit a home run. Kinda makes me laugh now that I think back on it. I was a pretty sad excuse of an athlete.

Now for the other meaning, first I have to say balls being hit hard is not exactly my idea of fun. But anywho, back on the topic at hand, as I understood it back then, "first base" was kissing. (I still am not 100% sure to this day what exactly each base is/means, as sad as that sounds.) The first girl I ever kissed was my next door neighbor in Houlton. I was 12 or so, I think? It was kinda awkward, at least on my part anyways... I really didn't know what I was doing and what I was supposed to be doing or anything like that. Though things eventually got much better as time progressed, but that first kiss was a doozy, as I recall.

This is rather a touchy subject for me. Being diagnosed with a chronic disease (I'm a diabetic, for those who didn't know), the healthcare system has saved my life quite a few times, though usually it was my own boneheaded decisions that got me there in the first place. I see both sides of this argument, from both perspectives of the provider (I'm working on getting my EMT license again) and the "providee", which, as I just said, I've been quite a few times. So if I had to choose one or the other, I think healthcare is a privilege.

Gah, I hate it when I can't put thoughts to words...

So I've been debating this over and over in my head for the past couple of years now and I never really seriously considered it, but as I sip my Tim Hortons iced coffee, I think I might want to be a Timmy Ho's franchisee. My father brought it up to me a few times, when I worked for shit-for-brains Marc over in Brewer, and I never really gave it a second thought or thought about it seriously. (I mean really sit down and think about things.) I know that it would mean another monetary investment I/my family is going to have to take, but I think it might be plausible. I'm going to have to hand the current restaurant over to my stepmother completely for her to take care of, which I'm fine with doing, since she's pretty much doing that now. I'm not really doing a whole lot when I'm there, if I'm there, LOL.

Blah, I don't know. Maybe I'm just living in my own little world, though the free crullers and coffee would be a nice touch...

It's the time of the year when the National Spelling Bee is on TV again, and I can't help but think of my middle school years. Given I wasn't the caliber of these kids now or then, but just reminiscing about those times are fun every now and then. I still haven't forgotten about my 6th grade year, when I had a brain fart when it came to my turn. I was in a spell-off with another kid for a chance to go to states. Needed to spell "colonel" or "kernel" (back then you could spell either homonym, as long as you didn't ask for the meaning of the word). I started to spell "colonel", then I froze after "colo". I knew the word, I knew how to spell it, my brain didn't want to work. I was beaten with "asterisk." I'll never live it down...

    <lj:music>Shadow of the Day - Linkin Park</lj:music>

So, my doctors and I decided to do some tests last week to figure out what exactly is wrong with a few problems I've had with my body physically. I got a copy of the results yesterday in the mail, and things don't look all too great. I'd rather not divulge the results publicly, due to some personal subject matters, however, if you would like to know, you'll need to contact me some other way. Those who know me know how to get a hold of me, plus my cell is back in working order, so that's another way of contacting me.

I recently also got a bill from the hospital and it comes to find out I owe them a good chunk of change. This doesn't really surprise me, since I haven't been exactly perfect when it comes to taking care of my health. I have no excuse on why I don't, I don't really know myself why I don't to be honest, but I honestly have made strides on keeping myself healthy and alive. Let's hope it's not too late, especially now that most emergency rooms have been provided with a list of people that they should not save in case of a pandemic/mass medical emergencies. (Yes, I am one of those people they are not required to save if that happens.)

My aunt and uncle came up to visit from NY a few days ago. It was nice to see them, I guess, considering I haven't seen them in about 10 or so years. My uncle and I had a long talk about stuff that's going on and it was nice to have someone to talk to, someone that will actually sit and listen to what I have to say and semi-understand where I'm coming from. I really can't seem to talk to my father and my stepmother is always "too busy" to talk, plus I really can't talk to my stepmother either, as much as she tries to be my "mother." I guess I never realized how much better it is to talk to someone, rather than keeping it all to myself and attempting to handle everything all by myself. So much for those 5 years in and out of psych hospitals, haha.

My father is still trying to get me to marry someone from China. I keep telling him that I have no interest in doing so, but he still keeps pushing me. This is probably one of the reasons why I can't or never talk to him, I can never talk to him without him being critical of something I have or haven't done. It's really tough to get anything across to my father, as much as I hate to admit to that. He's a very very stubborn man, but I'm sure he has his reasons, whatever they may be. But, with that said, he doesn't have any right to tell me who to date or marry. I know I'm getting older and that I "should" be getting ready to settle down and start a family, but I definitely don't need my father breathing down my neck and trying to force me into a marriage that I know I would not be happy in. *sigh*

So, yeah life has been interesting, to say the least. I've had one continuous headache for about a week now and for good reason I think, haha. I need a vacation, or at least a good few days away from my father's house. Anyone bored/willing? ;-)
